Day-by-day itinerary

A working plan, not a fixed one — days can be swapped, shortened or extended to suit your dates.

1. Day 1

   Fly into Paro

   One of the most spectacular approaches in aviation. Met by your guide, then a gentle first afternoon — Rinpung Dzong and the National Museum.

2. Day 2

   Paro to Thimphu

   Drive to the capital via Chuzom. Buddha Dordenma, the Memorial Chorten and the weekend market if the days line up.

3. Day 3

   Thimphu

   Tashichho Dzong, the painting school, the textile museum and the takin preserve — Bhutan at walking pace.

4. Day 4

   Over the pass to Punakha

   Across Dochula Pass with its 108 chortens and, on a clear day, the Himalaya laid out behind them. Punakha Dzong at the river confluence and a walk through paddy fields to Chimi Lhakhang.

5. Day 5

   Back to Paro

   A relaxed return with time for the suspension bridge and a farmhouse lunch, and an early night before the hike.

6. Day 6

   Tiger’s Nest

   The climb to Taktsang Monastery on the cliff face — around five hours return, with ponies available for part of the ascent. Afternoon at rest, and a traditional hot stone bath.

7. Day 7

   Departure

   Transfer to Paro airport for your flight home.
